Jewelry Care
Your Mackenzie Belle pieces are crafted with care — with a little attention, they'll stay beautiful for years to come. Follow these simple guidelines to keep your jewelry looking its best.
Everyday care
- Put it on last, take it off first. Apply lotions, perfumes, hairspray, and sunscreen before wearing your jewelry. These products can dull metal and damage stones over time.
- Avoid water. Remove your jewelry before showering, swimming, or washing dishes. Chlorine, salt water, and even hot water can weaken metals and discolor finishes.
- Store it separately. Keep each piece in its own pouch or compartment to prevent tangling and scratches.
- Skip the gym. Sweat is acidic and can tarnish even solid gold over time.
Cleaning your jewelry
For most pieces, a gentle clean at home is all you need:
- Mix a few drops of mild, phosphate-free dish soap into a bowl of warm (not hot) water.
- Let your piece soak for 10–15 minutes.
- Gently brush crevices with a soft-bristled toothbrush.
- Rinse with clean water and pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
For a polished finish, buff lightly with a jeweler's polishing cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, toothpaste, and abrasive materials — these can scratch delicate surfaces.
Metal-specific tips
Solid gold (14k & 18k): Durable and lasting. Clean as above; professional polish once a year keeps it gleaming.
Gold vermeil & gold-filled: A thicker layer of gold over sterling silver. Treat gently — avoid harsh chemicals and prolonged water exposure to protect the finish.
Sterling silver: Naturally tarnishes when exposed to air. Store in an airtight pouch and wear often — skin contact actually helps prevent tarnish.
Gemstones & pearls: Pearls are porous and delicate. Wipe with a damp, soft cloth after wearing and never soak. For opals, turquoise, and other soft stones, avoid water entirely.
